Installation

Installation
Name
This entry field holds the name of the installation. The installation name is what the user sees when your installer is run. All installation names must be unique since the installer uses installation names to determine what items to install. If you try to save an installation with a name that matches a previously saved installation, you are warned that the name is not unique.

You are not prevented, however, from creating duplicate installations with the Make into One Installation and Make into Multiple Installations options. If you create a duplicate installation with either of these options, remove it before building your installer.

System Folder
This popup presents a list of actions to take when the user targets a disk that does not contain System Software. For some installations, this may be acceptable, but for others, where items are placed within the Target System folder, this may not be desired. You do not have to set the System Folder attribute the same for all installation options within an installer. Some installation options may require warning or stopping, while others may not care when System Software is present.
Restart Option
This popup presents a list of restart actions to take after an installation is complete. You do not have to set the Restart Option attribute the same for all installation options within an installer. Some installation options may require a restart, while others may not.
Recommended
This setting indicates whether an installation is considered to be "Recommended" (checked) or "Custom" (unchecked). This setting dictates whether the installation choice is shown on the first (Recommended) or second (Custom) "page" of the installer window.
Ignore System Rules
This setting indicates whether an installation will obey all System Rules set for script items. System Rules determine whether items are installed based on the user's system configuration. This Ignore System Rules option allows you to create an installation which overrides these rules and installs files regardless of configuration. The Ignore System Rules option only overrides an item's System Rules, not its other attributes like Gestalt Tests or Result Tests.
Help Text (optional)
This field is used by the installer to present a help message to the user when the cursor is passed over that installation option in the installer window. This is useful for providing the user with information about a particular installation. This text is written to the final installer in a resource of type 'èLps' and ID 32015. If you are producing installers for multiple languages, you will need to translate these help messages after the installer is built.
Installation Rules
This is the list of the rules to be tested when the installation is started by the user. There are two buttons which affect the contents of the Installation Rules list: Installation rules differ from rules set for script items. They are checked up front, and the user is alerted if any requirements are not met. Item rules, on the other hand, are checked as each item is installed, and the user is not alerted if any requirements are not met.
Icon
This is the icon that the user sees for the installation in the installer window. The icon is actually a set of three icons at different color depths: 1-bit (black & white), 4-bit, and 8-bit. The installer displays the appropriate icon based on the setting of the user's monitor.

A default icon is assigned to an installation when it is first created. This icon can be changed by clicking the Get... button above the icon. Clicking this button opens a standard file selection dialog. When a file is selected, its icon is retrieved from your hard disk's "desktop database" and stored with the installation. If there is a problem retrieving an icon, a beep is sounded and the icon is unchanged. You must then choose another file's icon.

Change
This button closes the window, saving any changes. For a new installation, this button is named Create.
Cancel
This button closes the window, canceling any changes.
Delete
This button deletes the current installation from the script. For a new installation, this button is not available.
